RESEARCH BLOG #1: INITIAL TOPIC IDEA
What topic or
topics are you considering for a class project, and why?
- College drug
use and addiction: partying and drug/alcohol culture on campus. I wanted
to discuss some of the past and current trends in the partying
culture as well as the common drugs that students use on campus and why
they choose to use them. I also wanted to highlight how easy it is to find
these drugs on campus and finally end with drug addiction and how to
determine if an individual has an addiction and what to do in order to get
them help.

This is an interesting topic. But while many students have written on alcohol use on campus, I have not had much on drug use over the years, and those who did have taken down their sites. I think one of the main issues with drug use is the availability on campus -- which, for many students, may be the first time they have encountered a situation where drugs are so available.
ReplyDeleteI think it might be useful to talk about treatment and support for addicted students. I do know that several schools have established special housing for students with addictions, which seems like a good arrangement given how available drugs are in the dorms etc. A related issue is how much responsibility schools have to offer support for students and protect them from drugs and other dangers -- which Cooper discusses in the final section of her article.
